Kitchen Painting is about life and death via food. Death for the lamb is life for the implied person at the table. I tridd to strike a balance between the horror of death with the warmth of eating: note the sprig of rosemary and knob of garlic. Although the key elements on the table are realisticly rendered the table itself is without end and seemingly floats in time rather than being fixed in any real space. This heightens the allegorical nature of the narritive. The lambs chest cavity is shown in cross section and in perspective, as are the chops. The shank is shown in side elevation.
